It is a low cost Home-Based Community Radio Platform. Home because it cuts operational costs yet it reaches out to our target market. We are looking for motivated community leaders willing to play a part through community voluntary service to identify the farmer scholar as a vocation to build that local knowledge systems as well as merging the national and international knowledge system to the local smallholder farmer.
Our unique approach has been the quick, low-cost and effective integration of emerging technologies in expert resource mobilization for community building because our institutional phylosophy to development is broad rather than linear. AFI-VMP is our new platform that will further enhance not only our organizational capacity to mobilize subject matter volunteers and graduate interns but also reach out to the target group(smallholder farmers) through various development programs and market access intelligence broadcasting.
Young social enterprenuers are skilled to link technology, technology policy with the whole sprectrum of the development process especially here in Uganda and Africa. AFI-VMP Community Radio is just a market platform that has integrated telecom, web-based and radio technology for relevant content development and dissemination as a tool to enhance access to markets by smallholder farmers.
Using virtual platforms like ours has enabled us mobilize an expert community that can develop and share knowledge. It is now possible to replicate working models in Malaysia or Brazil in Uganda as an emerging community of social enterprenuers in partnership do not know borders. Ours is spiritual connection from East-to-West and North-to-South. AFI-VMP project integrates web-based radio broad-cast to enhance signal access over the Internet Protocol. It will also integrate a a mobile short messaging system and client database built over a web-based content management system to broadcast market intelligence information to farmers both off radio and SMS messaging. Through Rural Market Information Resource Centers established by other partners, clearly this is a complimentary effort to enhance information access and also market access. Armed with informations on input suppliers, transporters, warehouse reciept information, retail and wholesalers, it is possible for farmers to collectively market produce. It will be possible for rural farmers leverage their bargaining power on prices and by default fight poverty.
A combination of community radio and the emerging mobile telephony industry is shaping the potential of rural agriculture. Our focus is facilitating technology transfer to leverage the power of the rural farmer through relevant content development and market information programming as well as other relevant programs to rural development. AFI-VMP is just an upgrade of the web-based platform that initially was used to mobilize expert resource persons. It is an enhancement.
